All Season Adventures
We love winter in Park City – the crunch of the snow, crisp air on our cheeks, the thrill of a downhill adventure; but we can admit that it’s not for everyone!
If downhill skiing is not your favorite activity, here are a few other things you can do this winter.
Nordic Skiing: A Different Type of Ski Experience
Yes, nordic skiing is still technically skiing, but it’s a far cry from the type of thrills you get from a chairlift.
With more than 70 kilometers of groomed trails, Park City is a cross-country haven. Basin Recreation grooms 25km of free multipurpose trails near Utah Olympic Park, Willow Creek and Ecker Hill, while Mountain Trails Foundation maintains 25 km of multi-use groomed trails in Round Valley, located in Quinn’s Junction.
If you’re looking to jump into that postcard setting surrounding the iconic McPolin Farm or hit the backcountry for untracked snow, White Pine Touring offers 25 km of fee-based groomed trails around the barn as well as customized guided tours.
Backcountry Skiing or Riding Could Be a Gamechanger
If you like the idea of skiing, but you aren’t a huge fan of resort crowds, you might be a backcountry skier! Whether by helicopter, snowcat or your own steam (i.e., touring), enjoy off-the-grid skiing and riding throughout the Wasatch and Uinta mountains.
NOTE: Only adventurers educated in avalanche safety should venture into the backcountry. We also recommend always checking the Utah Avalanche Center for the latest avalanche levels and safety tips.
Enjoy a literal bird’s-eye view of the mountains with Powderbird Heliskiing, or go more low-key and cruise the mellow bowls located on 43,000 acres of private terrain with Park City Powdercats. For that off-piste day you’ve dreamed of, try Ski Utah’s Interconnect Tour and traverse the backcountry between six resorts in one day.
There’s more to do in Park City than just ski, but if you could be convinced to partake, here are some blogs you might find interesting!

The Great Equalizer: Snowshoeing
Perhaps the nicest thing about snowshoes is that you can use them just about anywhere, whether the trails are groomed or not. Rentals are readily available at local outdoor outfitters, and Mountain Trails provides printable maps for Round Valley, Glenwild, East Old Town and the Historic Rail Trail for those looking to enjoy the winter landscape at their own pace.
For a unique Park City experience, snowshoe under the stars with volunteers at Swaner Nature Preserve who will take you on a moonlight tour of their 1,200 acres of protected open space.
Snowmobiling is Perfect for Gearheads
Without a doubt, one of the most thrilling ways to experience Park City is by snowmobile. Go miles beyond other adventurers to see sweeping bowls and untouched mountain meadows of snow.
Wasatch Excursions is the only outfitter authorized to guide tours on the pristine 22,000 acres at Wasatch Mountain State Park, while Red Pine Adventures, Park City Peaks and Summit Meadows Adventures are just a few companies also offering rentals and/or guided tours on thousands of acres of private lands.
Ice-Fishing Can Be Fun for Avid Anglers and Beginners Alike
Drilling holes and dropping a line is a popular winter pastime for thousands of anglers in Utah, where trout fishing is as legendary as the snow! Take advantage of the opportunity to access deep water and other areas not usually accessible to shore-bound anglers.
Utah Ice Fishing offers rental packages as well as family-friendly guided tours to nearby Echo Reservoir, Rockport State Park and East Canyon State Park, complete with heated tent, chairs, fishing gear and snacks.

Do You Love Animals? Try Dog Sledding
For a distinctly different point of view, let “man’s best friend” be your guide on a dog-sledding adventure through aspen groves, evergreen forests and snow-covered meadows.
Luna Lobos, All Seasons Adventures and Bear Ridge Adventures are just a few local companies ready to harness their huskies, malamutes and other Nordic breeds for this one-of-a-kind trip around the Wasatch. What’s more, these outfitters also support local dog rescue efforts and offer several ways you can support them, too.

Keep the Biking Season Going with Fat-Tire Snow Bikes
If you think biking ends when the snow flies, think again. Fat-tire biking has become a popular way to enjoy Park City’s trails all year long. The oversized tires create a smooth pedaling experience, but you’ll still work up a sweat, and the many free multi-use trails allow you to bring Fido along, too.
Jans Mountain Outfitters, Storm Cycles and Silver Star Ski & Sport are just several places to rent bikes for full or half-day sessions. White Pine Touring and All Seasons Adventures offer tours ranging from mellow to challenging.
Spend the Day at Woodward
This world-famous action sports destination has something for everyone. Yes, they have traditional skiing and snowboarding, but they also have skills parks, tubing, and a variety of activities in the indoor hub. Woodward is an extreme sports fan’s dream with a skate park, ramps, a parkour zone, foam pits, a pump track, and a trampoline park. You might even spot one of your favorite extreme athletes training!

Enjoy a Charming Sleigh Ride
Is there anything more magical than a horse-drawn sleigh ride in the winter? During the holidays you can enjoy the Holiday Lights Wagon Ride at Jordanelle State Park. Your kids will love this evening sleigh ride through the park with the glittering light displays.
Closer to town, you can opt for the Park City Sleigh Rides, which depart from the Stein Eriksen Lodge or Silver Lake Lodge. These rides are a little bit more intimate, but at the end, you can grab a cocktail and snacks at Empire Pass Lodge!

Take in the Spectacle at the Utah Olympic Park
As a former (and future!) Olympic venue, the Utah Olympic Park is buzzing with activity, especially in the winter. Park City has done a wonderful job maintaining its old Olympic venues, making our town a prime destination for athletes in training. You can head over to the Olympic Park to watch competitions or try Nordic jumping for yourself. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also try the bobsled (with a professional driver, of course!)

What to Do in Town
If you’re looking for a slower pace and a more metropolitan excursion, there is still much to see, do, and eat in Park City. Here are just a few of our favorite things to do:
- Stroll Main Street for window shopping or gallery hopping. The ambiance downtown is electric in the winter!
- Visit the Park City Museum, it’s the perfect indoor activity and the exhibits are second to none!
- Check out shows at The Egyptian Theatre or Eccles Center.
- Eat, drink, and be merry at any one of our fabulous restaurants, bars, and cafes.
- Unwind at one of our tranquil day spas, book a massage or a facial, and enjoy!
January is also The Sundance Film Festival! This time of year, we highly recommend getting out to see some of the films available! Learn more about our guide to Sundance right here.
