How Luxurious is Deer Valley?

July 23rd, 2024 | Resorts

The word “luxury” conjures up different images depending on who you are or where you’re from. It’s subjective. In fact, here at CMFH, although our market is unquestionably luxurious, we actually try not to use the word “luxury” when we can.

Why?

For us, it feels like New York City term, with sky-high penthouses overlooking the concrete jungle. In reality, we feel that Park City and Deer Valley’s version of luxury transcends these classic scenes.

Instead, Deer Valley luxury relates more to lifestyle and experience, rather than material goods. But in that sense, Deer Valley is extremely luxurious.

Here’s everything you need to know about how luxurious it is in Deer Valley.

First, Let’s Define Luxury

As mentioned above, in Deer Valley, luxury isn’t a diamond ring or a supercar in the driveway; it’s a state of mind.

Luxury in Deer Valley is all about bringing the world’s finest amenities to a mountain setting. It’s about finding tranquility in recreation, rest, and relaxation. It’s about enjoying the finer things in life with your family and friends, while appreciating and feeling connected to the world around you.

In essence, everything comes together in Deer Valley, which is how they planned it so many years ago.

A Brief History Lesson

The original concept for Deer Valley was to bring 5-star, world-class amenities to the ski hills. Back when Deer Valley was first established, this idea was almost unheard of. And when we were originally selling the project back in the 1970s, you wouldn’t believe the number of people who didn’t think a luxury ski resort would work! How wrong those early naysayers were.

Driven by entrepreneur and hotelier, Edgar Stern, “The Deer Valley Difference” was his brain child that eventually caught on. From the moment guests would arrive at the resort, to the moment they left, they received the ultimate in service. Edgar Stern is remembered for his humble nature, however, he had a singular vision. His commitment to creating the highest level of service in Deer Valley was the guiding principle from the beginning, and it remains to this day.

Today, Deer Valley remains the very blueprint for luxury ski resorts. They have never veered from this principle, and as a result, Deer Valley is often ranked as the best luxury ski resort for its impeccable amenities and outstanding service.

So, What Makes Deer Valley Luxurious?

Edgar Stern envisioned Deer Valley as a premier luxury resort. His vision was based on three important factors:

  • Access to a Major Airport – Deer Valley is only about 45 minutes away from Salt Lake City International Airport. The drive to and from the airport is easy and pleasant. One of the most luxurious things we have at our disposal is time, and with its convenient proximity, visitors can get in and out of Deer Valley quickly. This helps maximize time enjoying the resort and eliminates any confusion, stress, or hassle that might come with traveling.
  • Proximity to an Existing Town – Deer Valley is right next door to Park City and quite close to Salt Lake City. Proximity to an existing town meant that when Deer Valley was first built, they didn’t need to worry about basic amenities. Instead, they could focus their efforts and attention on elevating and iterating on what already existed. Proximity to an existing town also helps widen the appeal of Deer Valley.
  • Private Ownership of Land – Since Deer Valley is privately owned, it’s much easier to define and “apply the decorum” of a luxury 5-star resort across both the resort infrastructure and the ski hills themselves.

Edgar understood that people value their time, and look for amazing service while on vacation. In addition to these three principles, he championed for more ski-in, ski-out properties (which were not as prevalent back then).

He knew that the amenities offered would need to be spectacular to delight and impress visitors. All these factors make Deer Valley unique and enable the resort to maintain its most luxurious feature: the world-class level of service.

High-End Service in Deer Valley

What exactly makes the level of service in Deer Valley different from other resorts? While the concept of a luxury ski resort eventually caught on, most other resorts don’t operate the same way they do in Deer Valley.

For instance, Deer Valley employees are trained to always be helpful and to provide the easiest, most enjoyable experience for guests. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable, focusing on making a real human connection with guests.

Available services and amenities are designed to elevate your ski experience. From the helpful valets to activities like cooking classes with Michelin-starred chefs, the level of amenities and service in Deer Valley goes far beyond perfectly groomed ski slopes. Every touchpoint has been perfected. From where you stay to what you eat, all facets of your experience in Deer Valley is elevated to perfection.

Exclusivity and Privacy in Deer Valley

Another concept that captures the essence of Deer Valley and its status as a luxury ski resort is its exclusivity and privacy. You won’t find yourself waiting in long lines or feeling overwhelmed by crowds.

The resort aims to offer a personalized experience, and as a result, you’ll find ticket sales are limited. Ski schools have smaller class sizes than you would normally expect, and the mountain is only open to skiers.

Deer Valley Now and in the Future

Although Deer Valley is expanding, the true foundation of its appeal has never veered from the vision Edgar Stern had all those years ago.

Deer Valley’s current President and COO, Todd Bennett is a hospitality industry veteran coming from The Walt Disney Company. With his passion for outdoor recreation and the legacy of “The Deer Valley Difference,” we can expect to see Deer Valley continue to lead the way in modern luxury ski resorts.

Trends and events may come and go, but one thing remains constant: a resort that prioritizes experiences, elevates the concept of service and is located in one of the most beautiful corners of the world will always be appealing.
