Park City is famous for its winters, but even in the “off-season” there are countless fun events and activities to keep you and your family entertained year-round. Whether you love active sports, spending time outdoors, or prefer to take in arts and culture, life in Park City offers all this and more!
In this post, we’re going to cover what it’s really like to live and play in Park City, beyond the slopes!
Spring in Park City
Here in Park City, we take Groundhog Day with a fair share of skepticism. It’s normal to see March come in and out like a lion and our traditional spring weather is usually not so traditional at all. There’s usually still some nice spring skiing available and since it’s difficult to predict what the weather will bring in spring, Park City residents like to keep their options open.
Go to Moab
Did you know that Moab is only about four hours away from Park City? Despite being so close, the climate there is completely different, making Moab one of the top “shoulder season” destinations for Park City residents. We even have a blog all about it that you can read right here.
Here at CMFH, we’re also working with Lionsback Resort in Moab, so if you’re in the market for a vacation home in this spectacular area, learn more here.
Get Your Miles in on a Mountain Bike
It’s not uncommon to hear the mountain biking community in Park City comment on the quality of the dirt. What’s dry? What’s still wet? Riding on wet or muddy trails can do damage to the trail network, so it’s best to wait for areas to dry out. Late spring is when many of the trails begin to become ridable and the mountain biking community comes alive. If you’re excited to hit the trails on two wheels, Round Valley and Glenwild are typically the areas that dry out first.
Take in a Game of Golf
Similarly to mountain biking, golf is another outdoor sport that depends entirely on the weather and how quickly the snow melts and the mud dries. Soldier Hollow Golf Course is usually one of the first to open for the season, along with some of the other courses down in the valley.
In fact, during the spring, many folks will start the day off skiing and then spend the afternoon golfing in the valley. Talk about multifaceted!

Visit the Olympic Sport Park
The Olympic Sport Park in Park City is an incredible local attraction that has numerous activities and events all year round. Originally built for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Games, this 400-acre venue is now a multi-use facility. In the winter, you might see athletes training in the area, but the park is open year-round for a variety of programs and activities!
Try Pond Skimming
Around the end of March to the beginning of April, Park City hosts an annual pond skimming contest. What’s pond skimming? We’re so glad you asked! Hosted at the Park City Mountain Resort, this annual contest involves ski and snowboard participants dressing up in costume in an attempt to make their way across a pond. There’s food, music, and lots of fun. The annual pond skimming contest is typically the first signal that spring in Park City has truly arrived!
What to Know About Spring in Park City
As a tourist-driven town, things tend to quiet down in the spring. As a result, some amenities adopt spring hours, and others even close for the season. Before planning a dinner date, make sure to check for updated hours of operation at restaurants and cafes.
Summer in Park City
The transition from ‘Mud Season’ to summer in Park City is subtle and beautiful. The days get longer, the temperatures rise, and the city feels fresh and vibrant. In addition to hiking, mountain biking, trail running, and golf, summer is the time of year when culture comes to Park City.
Wondering if you should move to Park City? Here are 7 undeniable reasons to call Park City home.
Explore the Park City Museum
Situated on Main Street, the Park City Museum is an award-winning venue and is your go-to destination for family fun and learning. With free museum days throughout the year, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to check things out. The museum has a variety of permanent exhibits as well as traveling exhibits, events, and more.
Experience a Live Show
Park City residents love living an active lifestyle, but they also love something else in almost equal measure: music! Summer in Park City is synonymous with music, and our lineup of incredible shows and festivals is second to none. Check out the Deer Valley Music Festival for spectacular chamber music, the Canyons Village Summer Concert Series, or head to the Silver Star Cafe for live music to all summer long.
There’s a Festival for Everyone
In addition to a variety of music festivals, Park City is home to other amazing events and attractions throughout the summer. We kick off the 4th of July with celebrations, a parade, and fireworks. There’s also the annual Kimball Arts Festival, known as one of the best arts festivals in the country. Excite your tastebuds at the annual Savor the Summit event or enjoy an eco-friendly open-air market at Silly Sunday. There’s truly something for everyone.
Go Boating on the Jordanelle
If you like spending time on the water, you’ll love boating on the Jordanelle and surrounding reservoirs. With options for boat, jet ski, kayak, and SUP rentals, you can plan a spectacular day. Don’t forget the SPF!

Fall in Park City
The leaves might be changing, and the nights might be colder, but there’s still much to do in Park City in the fall.
Play Pickleball
This relatively new sport has taken the world by storm. Pickleball is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis, ping-pong, and badminton. Once you start playing, you’ll quickly realize why it has gained popularity recently. If you’re looking for a court or a pickup game, you can head to City Park and play pickleball for free!
Hiking at Uintas
The Uinta Mountains offer exceptional hiking, but in our opinion, it’s best in the fall. With the spectacular changing colors, these hikes can feel magical and special. With very easy, easy, moderate, and hard trails, there’s a hike for everyone. With gorgeous views, you’ll want to make sure your phone or digital camera has plenty of memory for all the pictures you’ll take.
Go Shopping!
Here at CMFH, we love a little bit of retail therapy. There’s nothing better than strolling Main Street in Park City, window shopping, actual shopping, and then hitting up a cafe or restaurant for a refreshing beverage. Similar to spring in Park City, some restaurants have different hours during the fall, so it’s important to check before you visit.
Get Ready for Ski Season
It might seem premature, but here in Park City, we take ski season seriously! Fall is the best time to start preparing for ski season, whether it’s fitness training, ski servicing, or registering your kids for ski school.
