The 48th Annual Kimball Arts Festival returns to Main Street this week on Friday, August 4th, and runs through Sunday, August 6th, and is promising to be more impressive than ever. White tents will fill Main Street from top to bottom while food, music, and entertainment add to this wonderful celebration of human creativity. Artists from around the globe set up shop to display, inform, and sell their one-of-a-kind craftsmanship to throngs of eager art fans. “I wouldn’t miss the Arts Festival for anything,” said Dena Fleming. “I like to preview everything on Friday night during the free locals admission, and then head back on Saturday and Sunday to buy the items I loved the most. I find something new, creative, and wonderful every single year.”
Inspired by passion
Park City’s Kimball Arts Festival has become one of the state’s most attended summer events. Every participating artisan must successfully complete a discriminating approval process in one of twelve categories: ceramics, drawing, glass, jewelry, metal works, mixed media, fiber, painting, photography, print-making, sculpture, or wood. Each and every artist is passionately inspired to create unique works for you to fall in love with. Acceptance into this elite group is held in high esteem, and guarantees festival attendees that every booth will offer works that send their imaginations soaring. Coupled with loads of activities for the kids, a beer garden, gourmet food, and non-stop music performances, the Festival is always one of the most memorable family outings of the summer.
Humble beginnings to super success
Beginning in 1976 with only a handful of Park City artists, the August Arts Festival is now one of the longest running and best-known art events in all of Utah. Steve Chin credits the Kimball Arts Center and its annual festival with making art second only to skiing in establishing Park City’s international renown. “Parkites have always been an eclectic group from all different walks of life. Given that we consistently encourage one another to be outrageously ourselves, it was inevitable that artists would gravitate to us,” smiled Chin. The Festival serves as the primary fundraiser for the Kimball Art Center each year. Proceeds from it enable the Center to provide year-round exhibitions, gallery tours, monthly “Art Talks” and offer art education outreach to teachers, students and our community.
Park City’s Kimball Arts Festival opens at 6:00pm on Friday, August 4th. Admission is free for locals that night. Saturday and Sunday it opens at 10:00am, closing on Saturday at 8:00pm, and Sunday at 6:00pm. At only $12 per person for a pass that covers all weekend, it is the most affordable family fun you’ve had all summer. Parking at the local High School is recommended with free buses transporting art fans to Main Street. We at Chin-Fleming-Harris will see you on Main Street this weekend!
