What is the Best Ski Resort in Park City, Utah?

If you have a hard time making decisions, we hate to break it to you, but you are going to find skiing in Park City particularly challenging. The problem—if you could call it that—is that there are simply too many amazing options.

How do you choose the best place to ski in Park City when every mountain and every resort has its own unique charm and appeal?

In this post, we’re answering the question: What is the best ski resort in Park City, Utah?

Park City Mountain Resort

The eponymous Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR) is a fantastic ski resort for the whole family. With 7,300 acres of skiable terrain and over 330 trails, it’s the largest ski resort in the country. But that’s not the only reason why we love it.

With 40 lifts and a fairly equal amount of advanced and intermediate terrain, PCMR offers a truly unique experience. In addition to having some of the best snow in the world (it’s a scientific fact!) and some of the most unique trails that take you past remnants of our town’s mining history, PCMR offers three unique base villages: the town of Park City, Park City Mountain Village, and Canyons Village.

These base areas are known for world-class dining and amenities. Remember these spots while planning your apres! Throughout the year, the villages play host to numerous events and during summer months offer exciting activities like ziplines, biking trails, golf, and more!

Different villages provide access to different lifts, and at the end of the day, you can take the Town Run and ski right into downtown Park City.

Are you more into snowboarding or nailing tricks? PCMR has 7 world-class terrain parks for various levels of thrill seekers. Park City Mountain is even going to host several events during the 2034 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City!

The Olympics are coming back to Salt Lake City! Read our blog right here for everything you need to know.

Park City Mountain Resort is perfect for families, and with plenty of options for gear rentals and lessons, it’s a fantastic place to learn. But be warned, skiing at PCMR is so great, it might spoil other places for you!

How does Park City compare to other ski towns? Here are a few more posts you might find interesting:

Deer Valley Resort

With 24 lifts and a summit elevation of about 9,500 feet, Deer Valley is not yet quite as big as PCMR, but all that is about to change. Deer Valley is poised to become one of the largest and most impressive ski resorts in North America. Over the past several years, there has been significant growth and development, with more planned in the future.

The resort is expanding its terrain by over 3,700 skiable acres, making Deer Valley one of the largest resorts in America. In addition to adding more terrain, vertical feet, runs, gondolas, lifts, and more, Deer Valley is also elevating the ski experience with projects like Deer Valley East Village, an all-new community with top-tier skier services, world-class facilities, luxurious accommodations and amenities, and more.

Deer Valley exudes luxury, and for anyone looking for a VIP ski experience, it’s the place to be. As a ski-only resort, Deer Valley prioritizes the experience, needs, and preferences of skiers, not allowing snowboarders on the hill, resulting in an upscale, refined atmosphere.

From the luxury hotels and lodging to the fine dining, high-end shopping, and opulent spas, skiing at Deer Valley is about more than just the powder. It’s an immersive experience from start to finish.

Ski Resorts Within an Hour of Park City

One of the nicest things about skiing in Park City is that within a short distance, we have access to numerous ski hills and resorts. The following resorts are all within about an hour’s drive from Park City, earning them spots on this local list:

Brighton Resort

With about 1,000 acres of skiable terrain, Brighton is certainly not as big as the other resorts on this list. However, it’s known for its relatively easy terrain and affordable lift passes, making it popular with families in Salt Lake City looking for a quick getaway.

Alta Ski Area

With 5 lifts and about 118 runs, what Alta lacks in size, it makes up for in impressiveness. Known for its deep powder and off-piste skiing, Alta is fantastic for intermediate skiers and people who are looking for a more natural experience.

Sundance Ski Resort

As one of the smaller resorts on this list, Sundance has about 450 acres of terrain over two mountains. If you’re looking for a low-key, family-friendly adventure away from crowds, Sundance would be a great choice.

Solitude Mountain Resort

A self-proclaimed local favorite, Solitude is another low-key, family-friendly resort perfect for families looking for a reprieve from some of the busier mountains. With 1,200 acres of terrain, 82 runs, and exceptional off-piste terrain, Solitude is home to some of the most advanced double black trails in the region.

All this to say, Park City is an excellent home base. Read our blog here for more reasons why people choose Park City when buying vacation properties in Utah.
