Is Park City Dog-Friendly?

June 24th, 2024 | Park City Community

If you’re anything like us, your dogs are more than just a household pet–they’re family! Here in Park City, or should we say Bark City, dogs are an integral part of the culture and outdoorsy mountain lifestyle.

Many people here own a dog or in some cases multiple dogs, and we’re proud to say that Park City has some of the best infrastructure and amenities available for our canine companions.

So the short answer is, yes, Park City is extremely dog-friendly. Here’s everything you need to know:

Dog Parks Galore

Outdoor enrichment is essential for dogs of all ages, and what better way to get outside and mingle with fellow dog owners than to go to a dog park? Luckily, Park City has numerous dog parks for just that!

Some of our favorite dog parks in Park City include:

  • Willow Creek: This beautiful park packs a lot of punch in its 17.5 acres. With playgrounds, tennis/pickleball courts, and a paved trail, there’s something for everyone. But what we really want to talk about is the beautiful off-leash dog park. Featuring 2.4 acres of green space and a dog-friendly pond, you and your furry friends will love this popular dog park. Willow Creek Dog Park also features a soft-surface trail, 24,000 square feet of green space (or “fetch” space as it is known), shaded shelters, and an agility course.
  • Run-A-Muk Trail Area: Encompassing about 43 acres of green space, Run-A-Muk is perfect for an outdoor adventure with your pooch. The park offers a 2-mile trail that winds through aspen groves and shrublands overlooking the Utah Olympic Park. If you’re looking for a great way to get your steps in and enjoy the outdoors with your dog, this is the place to be!
  • Quinn’s Junction: Located at the Park City Sports Complex, this off-leash park offers a big play area, agility equipment, benches, and shade areas for owners. Additionally, there are separate areas for big and small dogs to make sure your dog has a good time based on their unique needs!

It’s not uncommon to see these parks full of people on any given day! Before you head out, make sure you confirm you are up-to-date with all the rules and regulations of the parks surrounding things like vaccinations, animal age, etc.

Endless Trails

Hikers and bikers are familiar with Park City’s incredible trail network, but did you know that most trails are also dog-friendly? There are countless trails and incredible areas in the mountain to hike with your dog.

Notably, the trails at Round Valley permit off-leash dog walking. With 2,100 acres and over 50 miles of trails, you won’t run out of adventures to go on with your furry friends.

Most Park City trails are also perfect for a hot day, with plenty of beautiful lakes, your dog can easily cool off with a fresh swim on a hot day.

No Time for a Walk? Hire a Dog Walker!

Are you strapped for time? Looking to get your dog out for some exercise? There are a plethora of highly recommended dog walkers in Park City. The service could not be easier. Once you book, your dog walker will come to your home, pick up your pooch, and take them out for a walk. Your dog will get outdoor stimulation and have fun running and playing with other dogs. They’ll come back feeling happy and tuckered out. Expect a long nap afterward!

Many local dog walkers, including one of our favorites, Fetch, also offer training, boarding, and doggy daycare. Perfect for when life gets busy but you want to ensure your dog’s days are filled with enrichment.

Park City Events for Dogs

Dog owners in Park City are a truly unique community. This is so obvious when it comes to Park City events for dogs!

In October, you can partake in Howl-O-Ween on Main Street where residents are invited to dress their dogs in costume and trick or treat along Main Street. It’s an amazing all-ages event, and worth the trip for the costumes alone!

Notably, Park City is also doing its part to make non-dog events more dog-friendly. For instance, Park City has explored doing a drone or laser show instead of fireworks on the Fourth of July to reduce stress for animals that get scared.
