Things You Didn’t Know About Living in Park City and Deer Valley

January 16th, 2024 | Park City Community

Living in Park City comes with a plethora of perks and benefits, some more obvious than others. Sure, we have the ski lifestyle, amazing amenities, and world-class luxury homes. But what if we told you that there was more than all that?

Park City is always surprising us, and even as locals, there are new things to discover every day. Whether you’ve been a Park City resident for life, or if you’re thinking about making the move to our amazing mountain town, there are bound to be a few things on this list you didn’t know.

Consider this your cheat code. Here’s everything you didn’t know about living in Park City.

The Hidden Gas Station

As a relatively small town, most residents are already familiar with the main Park City gas station, but did you know there is a second, hidden gas station? Located behind White Pine Touring on Lower Iron Horse Loop Rd., there’s more than meets the eye here. When you first drive by, you’ll see what looks to be a commercial depot, but investigate it a little further, and you will see it’s a gas station open to the public!

Park City is also home to the world-famous Sundance Festival. Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s festival right here.

The Surprisingly Well-Stocked General Store

Here in Utah, alcohol sales are typically limited to Utah Liquor Stores. However, there’s an exception to that rule that you will find at The Lodges at Deer Valley General Store. Not only does this fabulous little store have easy grocery items perfect for a small supply restock, but it also has an excellent selection of wine and spirits for sale–a novelty for Park City residents who are used to going to the Liquor Store only.

Ski season in Park City and Deer Valley is busy, and finding primo snow and unobstructed views and trails can be challenging, even for a local who has been skiing here for years. Did you know that the Deer Valley Mountain Hosts offer free tours of the mountain? We highly recommend taking advantage of this service. Not only will you learn about the history of the area and exciting trivia, but they can also show you secret powder stashes that even locals don’t know about. All you need to do is call Deer Valley and find out the time of the tours and where to meet the hosts. Tours have limited capacity so make sure you book early!

Enjoy a VIP Dining Experience

When you think about the lodges at Deer Valley and Park City, you probably conjure images of exclusivity and luxury. What many people don’t realize is that many of the amazing restaurants at the lodges are open to the public. These are often small, intimate, charming restaurants that are typically not packed with diners (depending on the season, of course).

Some of our favorites include:

  • Rime Seafood and Raw Bar – Located at the top of the Mountaineer Express Lift at Deer Valley and accessible from the Jordanelle Gondola, Rime is a stellar seafood restaurant perfect for a night out. The large deck offers stunning views, and the location couldn’t be more perfect.
  • The 7880 Club – Named for its elevation, The 7880 Club is part of the Stein Eriksen Residences of Deer Valley. Offering seasonal menus curated by celebrated culinary minds, 7880 is great in all seasons as an apres-ski spot or a place to enjoy fine dining, exquisite cocktails, and spectacular views.
  • Astor Bar – A relatively new establishment at the St. Regis Snow Park in Deer Valley, Astor Bar is a true hidden gem!
  • La Stellina – If you’re craving Italian, this rare resto at the St. Regis Snow Park is for you! Serving traditional fare prepared using timeless techniques, La Stellina uses local ingredients, proving that “simplicity is exquisite in its own right.”
